Missions
Highland Park has a long-standing committment to missions. In the past the church has supported works in Swaziland, Africa; eastern Kentucky, the Carribean, and a variety of other places, both domestic and foriegn. Currently its primary emphasis is upon the South Asian nations of Bangladesh and Nepal. Michael E. (Mike) Brooks serves as the Minister of Missions and Evangelism, and visits both these countries twice annually, dividing his time equally between Asia and the U.S. On many of these trips his wife Brenda accompanies him. She frequently teaches ladies classes, and helps in many other ways to encourage Christian ladies in these nations.
The focus of these missions is to support evangelism by local (national) churches and preachers, to mature and stablilize these churches, and to train national church leaders and evangelists. To this end Khulna Bible College in Khulna, Bangladesh was established in 1996. It offers a three year program which provides the equivilent of a BA degree in Bible. Mike Brooks directs the college which is overseen by the Highland Park elders. Ibon Halder, a Bangladeshi national who is a graduate of Heritage Christian University in Florence, AL, serves as the assistant director.
